Kwanzaa: Umoja

Habari Gani?

Umoja is the first day of Kwanzaa.

Umoja means unity. Success starts with Unity. Unity of family, community, nation and race.

Unity stresses the importance of togetherness for the family and the community, which is reflected in the African saying, "I am We," or "I am because We are."

Our families and communities need unity in order for them to be productive and to survive. On this day, we pledge to strive for -- and to maintain -- unity in the family, in the community, in the nation that we have helped to build, and with our PEOPLE.
