Ever since the advent of the innernets and the plethora of social networking websites that came with it I've noticed a few interesting changes since the last time I promoted a party. i.e. any ice donkey can now do it!
And with these few simple, easy-to-follow steps you too can promote your event just as well as any other imbecile who has an e-mail account and has signed up for a profile on Facebook.
No need to thank me now. Read to the end first.
***Disclaimer: To be eligible for these tips you must a) have a Facebook account & b) be able to use a computer (or at least have a friend who does). Knowing how to spell and/or actually hosting an event is NOT mandatory.
Now here we go:
STEP 1) First and foremost you need to have a flyer for said party. Got it? Good. Now upload it as your profile picture. As soon as the picture is uploaded tag every person on your friends list in the picture. FB might limit the number of people you can tag but don't worry. You can always upload the flyer again as a Wall Photo and tag the people you missed. Don't forget to implore all the people you've tagged in the flyer to now make it THEIR profile pic...to spread the word and what have you.
STEP 2) Now that you've uploaded the flyer and tagged every woman and their child you can now go make a new profile for your event. Recently it seems FB doesn't care what your name is so go ape shit crazy with it! More than likely you'll need to create the new profile using a new e-mail address so go to either Hotmail, yahoo or gmail and get yourself a personalised "event" e-mail so your patrons know how to contact you if they ever need to. I mean what the heck? they're free aren't they?
So you've made a profile for your event??? Have you made the flyer your events profile pic??? Good. Now go ahead and add all your friends as well as friends of friends on facebook as your events new friends. (as soon as they add you back tag them in your profile pic as well as any subsequent pics you post about said event)
Remember...it's not you so you don't actually have to know the people your adding... you are ADVERTISING...so it's okay to add that cute girl from the Carnival pics or that hot guy who you're sure is friends with Konshenz. Alls fair in Love and FB Events.
STEP 3) Now that you've created a profile for your event and have added entirely too much people as your friend you can now pretend that FB is limiting your friend intake and now create a FB page and/or a FB group... Do the same thing you did when you created your event profile page only this time tell all your friends and events friends' friends to join both pages and to tell their friends about it because this is going to be HUUUUGE!!!
STEP 4) Now that you've generated enough buzz about your "event" it's time to bring out the big guns! Create the Event Page!!! This is where you get to invite the gazillion amount of people who added your event as a friend as well as joined the fan page and the group. Don't worry if you haven't ironed out the details as yet. You've got lots of time!!! TBA are your new favourite letters... To Be Announced. So you don't have a venue, sponsors or date as yet... that's fine... your doing market research! As soon as you've ascertained what it is the patrons want then you can make final decisions.
STEP 5) And this is quite possibly the most important step. Please note you can do this at any point during the promotional process. Your middle name is now the name of your event in addition to any other words you'd like to add in description of your "goodness" and so forth. Don't hold back! The longer the better... How else will people know that it's your event???
Also don't forget to "share" your event often and repeatedly throughout the days leading up to the event. And force your new "friends" to do the same!
I hope these few simple steps have helped you to create what I know will be one of the most talked about events on Facebook...bar none!
