Identity

It doesn't matter what people call you, it's what you call yourself. I seldom allow things to bother me, and this is embedded into my spirit. I am too great to be called any one name. For today and from this moment on I am not only a daughter, a student, a graduate, a friend. I am a writer and soon to be teacher. I am a cosmopolitan. I refuse to be tied to any one definition. I am an African, a Jamaican, a West Indian, a Caribbean, a Black Woman. I am a critic, a revolutionaire. I am a Bull bucker and Duppy Conqueror, Bed Brucker and Buddy Conqueror. I am the Goodest, the Best, an Empress, a Lioness. I am Free.

I am who I am, no one can change me.
